Question Details: I am 25 years old, looking for a major that only needs 2 years degree that can make over 000-000 a year. My friend told me Computer Information System (CIS) makes that much with only 2 years degree and many company hiring for it. Is that true?
I’m planning to go to Laguardia Community College for CIS major, but it has more than one kind of CIS major, I don’t know which to choose. Here’s the web site:

Yes, your friend is right. Every business needs an IT person or they outsource form an IT firm. The more technology we use as a culture the more computer jobs will be in demand. That means higher pay and more job security.
I would schedule and appointment to visit with one of the professors or advisors at the community college. They will be able to tell you so much more about their curriculum. I’m sure that some of those are heavier on the sciences, programming, etc. but they all kind of over lap. Look at the course list and the course descriptions too. You want something that will be general enough so you can apply it to many different enviornments and job opportunities.
You’re making a great decision in doing this and I’m kind of jealous. I just went back to school and started working on my MBA and I think that when I get out your job will still be more valuable! GO YOU!
State and city governments often post the salary online with the job description (at least they do in Washington state). So check there to see what positions are in demand and what they pay. In our smaller city, junior programmers start at $4,000 to $5,000 and senior programmers start at $6,000 to $7,000 for monthly salaries.
You can certainly get an IT job with only an associate degree, but make sure you are doing as many internships as possible, and getting experience where you can. But don’t limit yourself, continue for that bachelor’s degree
