Here are some interesting topics, (although they may seem difficult to develop, i have done some of these myself, or seen them implemented by friends):
1) Library Management System (for complexity, you can include a feature called “interlibrary loan” wherein different school libraries exchange books if a book is not available with them, and if another school has it)
2) Online test system (like GRE, SAT, etc.) –> You will need a large database with questions, answers, and question level (because these tests are usually adaptive and get tougher as you answer the questions)
3) Hospital Database (will get complex if you include many departments, speciality care info, inpatient/outpatient, etc.)
4) Leisure Activity Classes Database –> these are extra-curricular classes like cooking, arts, crafts, pottery, sculpting, music, dance, sports, etc. that schools often offer to the students after school hours. (you can get really creative with this project)
