***Have posted this a couple times in the past 2 weeks. First time 1 answer, second time none. Sorry if you think I’m spamming,***
1. Which one would you suggest?
2. What are they thought of in the States (don’t even have to know anything)? I’m a little more concerned about Queens here.
Okay, I’m planning to do a join major in biology and computer science. Queens has a specialized program (with specialized classes; i.e. computer surgery taught by some supposed world-leading specialist they snagged from Cornell) called biomedical computing while McGill only does a straight up joint-major. Both schools are neck-and-neck in the MacLean’s rankings. I like them both. McGill seems to have a better reputation though (finished second next Waterloo whereas Queen’s finished seventh). However, in international ratings McGill performs much, much better. Matter of fact, it’s the only Canadian school that really performs well. Is this just hype? I’m concerned about “employability” (if that’s a word) once I graduate and may consider moving to the states. If you know about the schools, post your piece. If not, just post what you do think about them from general knowledge (espicially Americans, since I may consider moving to the states for better pay).
Queens seems to have the better program but McGill has a better reputation.
To be honest, I don’t know too much about either university. I have heard of McGill, and this summer I had a surgery performed by a doctor who went to McGill. He was excellent! I know it is considered to be the Harvard of Canada, but there aren’t a lot of McGill grads who immigrate to America.
On the other hand, the only association I have with Queen’s University is Anne of Green Gables…oh and I think I studied abroad in Greece with a kid from Queens, but he was kicked out after a couple of weeks for getting drunk and smashing the windows of a bus.
Overall, no matter where you decide to live after graduation, as long as you are smart and hardworking, it doesnt matter the reputation of a school. Pick someplace you can be happy, and work as hard as you can. Your reputation as a person will outweigh your reputation as a McGill or Queen’s graduate.
MCill U, has a better reputation in the U.S and is more well known, if that helps you.
McGill has a better reputation.
Queen’s is known for partying HARD. If you asked me what the top party university in Canada is, I’d say Queen’s without thinking. I know people who have had to transfer out because of that.
