I am a junior in high school right now, soon to be a senior. I am already certain that I will want to major in computer science in college.
My high school does not have an AP Physics class, but it does have honors physics – a slight step down from AP.
I am eligible to take AP Chemistry instead of physics, but I am wondering which one would look better on my transcript for college admission as a future computer science major; AP Chemistry or Honors Physics.
Help!
AP Chemistry is hell on Earth. Neither have any special relation to computer science but if you want one more thing to add to your transcript…take AP Chem. If you dare.
In my opinion, this is kind of a toss-up. Yes, the AP Chemistry class will be more vigorous than Honors Physics, but it’s fine to take Honors Physics if AP isn’t available, especially if you are taking other AP classes. What I would do is look up the major requirements for a college you’re thinking about attending and see if you need physics or chemistry for the major. If you don’t need chemistry, I would go for the physics. On the other hand, if for some reason you are looking for extra college credit, then take the chemistry. I’m not a computer science major, but I think physics might be a little bit more relevant.
