I have an MS in CS from CSU East Bay (there is no CSU Hayward anymore). I strongly suggest you go to a UC instead. My MS degree is not respected, despite the fact that I got a 4.0. I also don’t feel like I learned very much. I would avoid SF State as well. I have a job at a major software company, but my MS had little to do with it.

If I were you, I’d take a couple classes there and do my best to transfer to a UC.

    Hi Angel,

Thanks for your interest in California State University, East Bay (CSUEB) in Hayward, CA.

Our Mathematics and Computer Science Department is a large and flourishing department offering about 30 graduate courses. There are over 30 full-time faculty members, over half of whom are computer scientists covering a wide range of areas. Many graduate students work and attend school only in the evenings or part-time. The Department and University pays special attention to their needs so most graduate classes are offered in the late afternoon or evening plus courses are being offered as new hybrid courses with a combination of in-class and online course work.

Students choose CSUEB because it is a low-cost, convenient school with a good reputation. Cal State East Bay was recognized as a “top–tier” institution among master’s–granting universities in the West by the U.S. News & World Report’s annual “America’s Best Colleges” guide. The Princeton Review selected Cal State East Bay as a “Best in the West” college for the sixth consecutive year in 2010.

It is located in the Hayward hills, overlooking the San Francisco Bay and is within easy reach of most of the Bay Area. CSUEB is large enough (about 13,000 students) to offer many specialties, but small enough that each student can receive individual attention.

At CSUEB, you will learn from professors who are active both in the classroom and in their respective research area. Professor Krishnan Balasubramanian has published extensively on applications of mathematics and computers to toxicology, environmental chemistry and bioinformatics. Professor Edward Billard focuses on software engineering, game theory, intelligent control, and educational software. Dr. Kevin Brown’s research interests are in network protocols designed to support mobile hosts.

The Master of Science degree program in Computer Science offers students the opportunity to enhance their general understanding of theoretical principles and to provide specific professional background. The course offerings represent a balanced program that reflects the strengths of the faculty in the department who have expertise in all major areas of Computer Science. The Department also offers an M.S. in Telecommunications, jointly with the Department of Accounting, Computer Information Systems, and Telecommunications.

If you haven’t been CSUEB, we encourage you to take a campus tour. Walking tours of the campus depart from the Welcome Center Monday-Friday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. http://www20.csueastbay.edu/about/visito…

    Good luck!
