I plan on double majoring in computer science and mathematics. I am considering a chemistry minor with that also, or I am considering a triple major with computer science, mathematics, and chemistry. I also have many ap credits and college dual credit, so getting a double or triple major will be easier. The colleges I am looking at are m.i.t., stanford, university of california-berkeley, carnegie-mellon, university of illinois-urbana, and Purdue University. Not so sure I would really want to go to an ivy-league college since it would be harder to get a double or triple major because some of my dual credit may not transfer. Also, I don’t like the idea of being far from home and family. I am really considering Purdue University because I would have in-state tuition there and going there would basically be free after financial aid, grants, and scholarships. I am really looking at the university of illinois-urbana since they are not too far from home, and their graduate programs for computer science, mathematics, and chemistry are very good. Their graduate programs are very near ivy-league levels. So, since their graduate programs are top-notch I assume their undergraduate programs are top-notch. Correct me if I’m wrong. However, the university of illinois costs a lotttt, and all the other colleges are very far from home, which I don’t like so much. So, should I go to Purdue? I know Purdue has a pretty good computer science graduate program, and again I assume their undergraduate program is about the same. The graduate program is ranked 19th in the nation, but the other colleges I mentioned are ranked much higher. I know my dual credits will transfer and my ap credit will to Purdue. Although, that’s the same story for the university of illinois. Really, I’ve talked to some people, and what matters most is what graduate program you end up in. So, ideally I could go to Purdue for basically free then go to mit or stanford’s graduate school. Or is Purdue just not good enough to get into a top graduate school and if I go to any of the other colleges, will I look much better to graduate admissions?
Go for Purdue…u seemed to have nothing bad to say about it! Good luck with your choice! GO BOILERMAKERS!
Nah, Purdue is a great school, its not so much the name of the school, more in how well you do at that school- they dont care if you go to purdue or iupui- its all the same to them for the most part (theres exceptions), they want to see those A’s.
For the same reasons as above Purdue sounds like a good choice for you. Though an undergrad school with a great reputation helps, make sure you keep your grades up because once you get into masters/phd programs THAT school is really the one that will matter.
Good luck!
