I have been interested in Computer Science for a while now, and since I want to prepare for my life, I’m thinking about what major I will pursue. I’m very good at math (Honors/AP) but nothing else really. I’m above average in English and Science, but I’m not really interested in that(I hate Chemistry but I like Biology, and I haven’t taken physics yet). So is Computer Science a good path for me? Would I need a Master’s before I make money? What types of computer science engineers are there? Which University of California is recommended for computer science(I’m thinking about UCLA)? Is the job market good? What clubs/extracurricular activities should I join?
Sorry about the huge amount of questions; I’m just overly curious. Any advice/answers are appreciated. Thanks for reading
If you like it, you shouldn’t let anyone stop you! There’s always money to be made in computers, but money shouldn’t be a driving force in why you choose that profession.
Engineers and CS majors are REALLY good options to make money, those degrees will always be in demand and will command higher salaries, because not anyone can become earn that designation.
With that said, CS is a difficult program, that will require A LOT of math and A LOT of science since it is a Bachelor of SCIENCE, starting with Calculus and up, it takes a lot of work, but if you work hard you can do it.
You definitely can start making good money with a BS in CS, they are not so much engineers as they are programmers that develop language needed for a variety of things from robotics, computers, and networks.
Yes, UC is a good school system, primarily UCLA and Berkeley, but are hard to get into as well, Ivy League hard.
The job market will always be good and will only grow as time goes by.
If you’re up for it, hard worker, and are diligent, a career in CS can be very lucrative and can open up many other options in the future.
Good luck
