Hi, everyone! So the deadline for accepting my colleges’ offers of admission is quickly approaching and I find myself stuck between two well-known universities — Virginia Tech and Purdue. I would like to attend either university for aerospace engineering (or possibly computer science if I find later that aerospace is not what i wish to do). I know that both schools have great reputations for their engineering. I feel that Purdue may have a better standing for aerospace (connections with NASA). I believe Virginia Tech, however, has better food and a nicer social atmosphere. In addition, Virgina Tech also provides computer science as a minor (which I want). I visited Virginia Tech this past weekend and absolutely loved it. I am still contemplating visiting Purdue. (I hear it is also very nice.) As of right now, I am leaning toward Virginia Tech, but I feel like I cannot make an official decision without doubting myself.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! ![]()
Thank you for your input! I still haven’t decided which college yet, but I feel that I will be happy no matter which one I choose.
Virginia Tech is a fine school. If it’s the one you liked better, go for it. The difference is not enough, if you work hard and achieve good grades, you’ll do just as well.
Purdue is a very nice school. My daughter is transferring there from the Northeast. I have visited once and she has stayed 3 times for a week. It also has great food and as a big 10-good sports. The campus is very friendly. The aerospace program i think is a lttle stonger. If it’s not hard getting a visit in you might want to try. I have a friend who’s son is at YA tech and loves it. Either way good luck and enjoy!
Purdue has a higher academic standing and is extremely well regarded in aerospace. However, both are Tier 1 schools, and both will give you an excellent education. Virginia Tech is probably in a better location, but something about Purdue alumni – once a Boilermaker always a Boilermaker. I’ve been in engineering a while, and I’ve seen people hired on the spot simply because the manager and employee both went to Purdue. It’s weird, never seen anything else come quite as close.
Anyway, for aerospace Purdue it the better school, but the differences are slight and if VT gives you the better vibe it would not be a poor choice at all.
